Vote for Data República project at WSIS Prizes 2018

Data República, the digital lab for the sustainable development created as a result of the partnership between CEPEI and Telefónica, has been selected for the voting phase at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) prizes 2018 organised by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). These prizes are the exceptional international recognition of WSIS stakeholders for their excellence in supporting achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Vote now for Data República in the “Access to information and knowledge” category number three.

This project has been chosen under the category three: “Access to information and knowledge” and can be voted until the 18th of February here. The five projects with the highest number of votes per category will pass to the selection phase where the Expert Group will finally choose the winning projects. The winners will be announced during the WSIS Prizes 2018 Ceremony at the WSIS Forum 2018 held from the 19th to the 23rd of March at Geneva, Switzerland.

Data República is a pioneering digital laboratory which acts as a vehicle for introducing citizens to the world of data, as well as enhancing decision-making capabilities as part of the UN’s 17 SDGs.

It is a collaborative space where people can, among other things: learn which institutions produce and use SDG´s data in different countries; identify existing tools for working with data sets; share stories created with data, and visualize them through innovative ways; and have access to educative content regarding data and the 2030 Agenda.

With Data República civil society, academia, the public sector, the private sector and multilateral agencies can contribute to building more solid data ecosystems at local, regional and global levels.

In the spirit of strengthening the data ecosystem for sustainable development, Data República was born in early 2017 as a result of the partnership between CEPEI and Telefónica. The initial phase of the project was launched a year ago in Colombia, Mexico and Costa Rica and, in its second phase, it will be extended to other countries in the region such as Peru. In addition, conversation are taking place with actors in Africa to share the experiences of the platform and to explore the possibility of its implementation throughout the continent

WSIS prizes were developed in response to requests from the WSIS stakeholders to create an effective mechanism to evaluate projects and activities that leverage the power of information and communication technologies(ICTs) to advance sustainable development.
