By its second anniversary and four months after the launch of the 1st Wayra Call, Wayra, the acceleration program of Telefónica, announced last month the launch of a new global call for new business proposals in the ICT and Internet fields.
During the announcement of the launch, Gonzalo Martín-Villa, CEO of Wayra, explained that “this new call is a new opportunity for entrepreneurs all over the world to accelerate their start-ups with Wayra”. He also noted that “Wayra provides entrepreneurs an excellent model to scale up their projects, and that is the reason why we are looking for start-ups with the greatest potential. Two years after the launch of Wayra, we still have the clear objective of making Telefónica the best place to innovate”.
With this new search of digital talents, Wayra aims to recruit nearly 60 new start-ups for its academies in Germany, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Ireland, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.
From 24 April to 26 May, entrepreneurs around the world can present their digital projects to qualify for a place in any of the eight Wayra academies with places available for this call: Buenos Aires, Caracas, Dublin, Lima, Madrid, Santiago de Chile, Mexico DF and Munich.
After a selection process, the best projects will become part of Wayra.
You already know that, in addition to financial support, this program provides access to the forefront of Wayra academies and its global network of entrepreneurs. Selected projects will receive support for the development of their businesses, including technical and commercial advice. The winners will also have the opportunity to come into contact with other entrepreneurs in the network of Wayra academies in Europe and Latin America.
The businesses that Wayra decides to accelerate have one thing in common: to take advantage of the Internet and new technologies to innovate.
In this call, Wayra will pay special attention to products and solutions in the areas of Analytics (Big Data and M2M -Machine to Machine-), mobile apps (including HTML5 developments), virtualization and cloud services (XaaS).
Launched in April 2011, the objective of Wayra is to support the growth of innovation and technological entrepreneurship. In only two years, Wayra has consolidated itself as one of the most important accelerators of the world, with operations in 12 countries of Latin America and Europe.
Throughout its different local and global calls, Wayra has received more than 17,000 technological business proposals. From this amount, Wayra has selected more than 230 new start-ups to accelerate them. All together, these 230 start-ups add up to an investment of 7.5 million euros by Telefónica.
