Mónica Sánchez Soliva

Graduated in Law and Journalism, I work as competition counsel in the Public Policy, Competition and Regulatory Affairs area at Telefónica S.A since 2016. I lead Competition Policy and legal matters.

With regard to the legal side, my work is focused on M&A transactions from the regulatory perspective, since the regulatory analysis and preparation of all legal stuff till the merger filings and subsequent clearance and compliance with competition rules throughout the procedure. Likewise, our legal stuff goes is also focused on the competition compliance, antitrust advice and support to other areas, as well as Telefónica’s OBs.

On the policy side, my work is focused on shaping EU Competition Policy and regulation. I have vast experience in the development of public positioning and lobby actions to engage with EU authorities (the EC, EP, Counsel) to pursue Telefonica’s queries on EU Competition Policy matters. Special focus is on the analysis and impact of EU Competition policies in Telefónica’s operating business in Europe (Spain, Germany and United Kingdom). These lobby actions are also done through sectorial associations with other telecoms operators across the EU (such us the GSMA and ETNO), and other cross-sectorial ones: ERT, ICLA, OCDE and BE. I also worked in the Public Affairs Office of Telefónica in Brussels in a secondment in 2019. Previously working in the legal area of Telefónica de España in an internship, particularly in the commercial and public contracting area, judicial matters (civil, criminal, contentious-administrative cases) telecoms regulation area and compliance.
