Telefónica is driving the digitalisation of operational management in Negratín’s energy projects

● The company’s services incorporate advanced connectivity, real-time location tracking and access control solutions to digitally transform the management and execution of the energy group’s construction projects.
● This new model, which optimises the coordination of personnel and materials and strengthens control over project delivery, is currently being trialled in three projects in Colombia.

Telefónica has rolled out a new model for managing the Negratín Group’s construction projects, based on advanced digitalisation solutions that will transform the way it operates on large-scale energy projects.

Negratín, a global company of Spanish origin specialising in comprehensive solutions for the energy sector, has partnered with Telefónica to incorporate IoT connectivity, real-time location tracking and smart access control capabilities to create a solution that provides continuous, centralised and real-time information on activity within the most complex energy projects.

These solutions are already being rolled out in Negratín projects in several rural locations in Colombia (La Mina, La Tabla and, shortly, Tropezón) which, taken together, have a total photovoltaic power generation capacity of 38.4 MWp (megawatts peak), representing around 10 per cent of the group’s activity. Although this is currently a pilot scheme in the Latin American country, the plan is to roll out this solution progressively across the group’s other energy plants in the future.

Better services to optimise efficiency

In an environment characterised by the growing complexity of energy projects and pressure regarding deadlines and efficiency, on-site operational management — including team coordination, materials control and access management — has become a critical factor in ensuring their successful execution.

The digitalisation of these processes enables a shift from manual and decentralised models towards systems based on real-time information, which improve operational visibility and enhance control capabilities.

Through these tools, Negratín can continuously monitor the location of teams in the field, manage access to different areas of the project and control the movement of critical materials, thereby optimising task planning and improving coordination between the various parties involved.

The system, supported by Telefónica’s connectivity infrastructure, enables continuous data updates and the management of 215 devices and assets on site, generating a volume of data that is integrated into project operations to facilitate decision-making.

In addition to the impact on efficiency, the implementation of these solutions helps to improve the traceability of operations and raise safety standards through more accurate monitoring of site presence and material flows.

This development forms part of Negratín’s strategy to integrate digitalisation as a key driver in the continuous improvement of its project delivery model, in line with its approach to applied innovation focused on operational efficiency, technical control and risk management in energy projects.
