Telefónica and FiLIP Technologies are associated to sell the Filip smartwatch in Europe and Latin America.

Telefónica and FiLIP Technologies announced this week that they will be selling FiLIPin Europe and Latin America, a smartwatch for children between 4 and 11-years old and that allows parents to control the watch from their smartphones.

FiLIP combines GPS, WiFi, and GSM technologies in a colourful watch that shows the time and date and that children can wear anywhere they go. FiLIP characteristics can be adjusted according to the parents’ needs and include, among others:

• location

• sending and receiving voice messages

• sending messages directly to the children

The adult remains in control at all times thanks to an app* installed on their smartphone and chooses five trusted contacts with which their child can communicate. FiLIP also allows parents to establish "safe areas" in order to receive an alert if the child enters or leaves the defined areas. In the case that a child finds themselves in a dangerous situation, FiLIP includes an emergency button that, when pressed by the child, activates a smart emergency procedure that allows the child to be found and calls all their emergency contacts in the order previously selected by the parent, until one of them answers.

FiLIP was launched in 2013 in the United States to great success and thanks to an agreement with FiLIP Technologies, Telefónica will sell FiLIP in various countries in which it operates, beginning with Europe in the near future.

Jonathan Peachey, managing director for FiLIP technologies explains how “FiLIP fits perfectly into the Telefónica goal of offering families innovative products and services, and its massive international presence makes it an interesting partner for our company as we begin our expansion outside of the United States”.
