The 4th Data Transparency Lab Conference will be held in Barcelona from the 11-12 of December. This is an annual inter-institutional event resulting from the partnership between Telefónica, AT&T, Mozilla, INRIA and MIT Connection Science to improve transparency in the use and management of personal data.

The event will take place at the Telefónica building in Barcelona and will be open to industrial representatives, legislators, researchers, designers and the media, all anxious to learn more about recent developments in transparency and data privacy to see what they entail in terms of business and personnel management.

45 projects from 18 countries have taken part in the 2017 DTL Scholarship Programme. 11 of them were reviewed at the Programme Committee meeting held on 23 June and 9 of them were selected as finalists. Then, the Committee decided to fund 6 projects with grants totalling €50,000.

As occurs every year, there have been partnerships with international universities and research centres to grant scholarships to the software which best enables users to become aware of how they use their data and how to maintain their privacy. These projects will be presented to the public and the software should be ready online in the course of the year following the scholarships.

This year’s schedule also includes panel discussions, workshops, application demonstrations, presentations of the DTL Scholarship Programme and the Hack Day.  One new feature is the chance for everyone registered to have access to an application enabling them to pre-schedule one-to-one meetings with the conference attendees and speakers to make the most of the networking during the event.
