How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?

I joined Telefónica de España as an intern in 2000 and joined the company as an employee in February 2001, so I have been working in this company for more than 24 years, always in the finance area. When I joined as an intern, the company’s challenge was to bring ADSL and 2G mobile telephony to every corner of the country. If I were to list all the changes, social and technological challenges we have faced since then, I would never finish. My time at Telefónica has been very dynamic and I am missing out on actively participating in the transformation of society.

Is there any project at Telefónica that you feel particularly satisfied with or proud of?

Over the years I have participated in many projects, but there is one that has a special value for me. It was 10 years ago for the Telefónica Foundation, to raise funds for research into childhood cancer. It meant a lot for several reasons: on the one hand, it allowed me to put my skills and aptitudes to work towards a goal that went beyond the company; on the other hand, it was further proof of how this company is part of society and collaborates with it; and because it allowed me to meet committed and incredible people.

What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?

Telefónica is a fundamental player in communications in this country, it contributes to the way we relate to each other, how we work, how we spend our free time. The company’s successes have a visible impact on society.

Where do you see Telefónica in the future?

Offering the products and services that will be necessary from a telecommunications point of view in the face of new social challenges such as decarbonisation, mobility, integration of diversity, etc.

Could you live without a mobile phone?

Probably yes, but it is becoming increasingly difficult. The mobile phone has become a tool that has changed the way we do many things and will continue to do so.

Help us solve one of humanity’s great enigmas: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?

There are two types of people. Those who know that potato omelette has onion and those who have no idea about life.

What crazy idea would you like Telefónica to do for its centenary?

I’m not really up to date with the company’s planned celebrations, but if there’s any music, I’d like them to bring in a rock band, as mine.

Nominate another colleague to appear in this section

I am going to nominate José Manuel Morillo Marín, he is an interesting profile both for his work within the company and his hobbies outside it.

In #Thespanishomelettething tag section we interview Telefónica’s employees on a variety of topics, while trying to solve one of humanity’s greatest dilemmas.
