Children and adolescents have become active users of a digital environment that was not originally designed with their specific needs in mind. The widespread use of digital devices and services has lowered the age at which minors first encounter technology. Having grown up surrounded by technology, younger generations navigate the digital environment intuitively. However, intuitive use does not necessarily imply critical, safe, and responsible use of technology.
The convergence of a digital environment that has not always incorporated child protection by design and the lack of sufficient tools and knowledge to encourage responsible use has created a range of risks to which minors are exposed online.
At Telefónica, we recognize the importance of addressing this challenge, as well as the role we must play, together with the other stakeholders in the digital ecosystem, in contributing to a safer and more appropriate digital environment for minors and helping them take advantage of its opportunities responsibly.
