Telefónica today announces the launch of its own platform for the smart management of water meters, which will enable customers (utility companies and local authorities) to receive consumption data for analysis and billing purposes, remotely monitor the status of devices and detect potential irregularities in consumption at an early stage.
The platform is designed to be compatible with meters from different manufacturers and stands out by offering, thanks to Telefónica’s network capabilities, unified monitoring and management of connected devices and associated communications. Furthermore, it integrates natively with Kite, Telefónica’s IoT connectivity platform, which operates across different network technologies and enables centralised management of meter communications. Kite provides advanced security and automation capabilities to ensure a robust and scalable service in deployments involving thousands of geographically distributed meters.
Customers, who will access the cloud platform securely and directly via a ‘login’, will have a comprehensive overview of their deployed infrastructure to simplify their day-to-day operations and make data-driven decisions. On the same platform, they will be able to view consumption readings, access historical data, check the status of devices and generate reports, as well as set up alerts and receive notifications regarding potential irregularities.
Dario Cesena, Director of IoT at Telefónica Tech, states: “The digitalisation of the water sector requires tools that are simple, efficient and capable of transforming data into useful information for day-to-day management. With this new platform, which we have developed in-house, we are taking another step forward in our mission to be the best gateway to digital technologies by helping water management companies and public authorities to optimise resources and move towards smarter and more sustainable water management.”
Remote management and smart alerts
The launch of this platform reinforces Telefónica’s commitment to offering more and better services to customers, and contributes to the digital transformation of the water sector with tools that are simple to implement and promote the smart management of water meter networks.
The platform incorporates features that enable the receipt of consumption data, the monitoring of device status, and the generation of alerts in the event of potential incidents or anomalous behaviour, thereby speeding up the response and improving operational efficiency. Notable features include, for example, those designed to identify unusual water consumption, detect potential leaks, notify operators of missing readings, or alert them to deviations from usual consumption patterns or tampering with the meter itself.
Furthermore, the tool allows certain operating parameters to be modified remotely, such as the frequency of data transmission or the request for new readings, thereby reducing the need for on-site interventions.
