After several years of work, a reduction of millions of kWh and euros, and thousands of greenhouse gas emissions avoided, Telefónica has defined an ambitious objective for the reduction of CO2 emissions which reflects our seriousness and commitment.

This target will allow us to reduce the company’s GHG emissions worldwide in a manner which is both effective and aligned with our business reality. In addition, this eco-efficiency objective, i.e. one which reflects the company’s environmental behaviour while generating economic benefits, has the following strategic objectives:

  • To identify opportunities for the reduction and economic evaluation of the investments required.
  • It allows us to steal a march on any possible regulation regarding the compulsory establishment of reduction objectives in the ICT sector as a whole.
  • To reduce the carbon footprint of the products and services we provide to our customers.
  • To respond to demands from Investors, industry analysts and our customers, amongst other players.

Some people will be wondering why we have taken so long in drawing up a CO2 objective. Well, because “Rome wasn’t built in a day”, as the saying goes.  Telefónica has always taken environmental objectives seriously, and this is no exception.

To meet these objectives, we will work together with those in the Group responsible for energy, and with the people in charge of environmental policies locally.
