Dresses to connect: Accidental synergy in the office

At some point in our working lives, we have all experienced that moment: you arrive at the office, walk in, say hello, and someone else looks exactly like you.

No, there were no messages the night before, we didn’t agree on it, we didn’t plan it. It’s just a coincidence, and amid laughter and jokes, this phenomenon can offer insight into how we work, connect and vibrate with our colleagues in the workplace.

Coincidence, connections, energy, collective synergy?

It turns out that these coincidences reveal connections. Some relate it to the holistic: we are aligned not only in tasks but also in internal states.

In highly collaborative teams, spontaneous coincidences can be seen as external manifestations of cohesion.

In the workplace

According to recent studies, these dynamics can help us boost performance indicators and reinforce a positive and well-defined organisational climate. This is how a simple coincidence can be used as a tool to:

  • Increase productivity: happy and motivated employees tend to be more efficient.
  • Improve communication and cooperation: it fosters an environment where sharing ideas and collaborating comes naturally.
  • Reduce stress and absenteeism: a healthy environment has a direct impact on well-being at work.
  • Facilitate strategic alignment: when shared values are clear, teams synchronise more easily.

Could this be why companies adopt uniforms or dress codes? Yes, for reasons that go far beyond aesthetics, this practice helps employees become silent ambassadors for the organisation. It helps us promote instant connections and reinforce collective identity.

In particular

I like the phenomenon of Driving Synergy through Creativity. Above all, because I have coincided not just one day but one week wearing the same colours with my teammate Dayana Caro, who encouraged me to write this article. We have christened these encounters ‘Twins moments’.

We can implement this dynamic in our teams to create immersive experiences, because they break the routine and generate a climate that connects people. Without a doubt, they create memorable moments.

Perhaps it is not just a question of clothing, style, colours or fashion. Perhaps it is a synergistic environment, where teams align themselves with objectives and values, and the universe finds visual ways to show us. And if it is energy… when working as a team, it is nice to know that we are vibrating on the same frequency.
