For the past year, I have been working as a Security Automation Engineer on TEF’s Security Team, where I oversee the SOAR (Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response) application. My responsibilities include managing, maintaining, and enhancing the SOAR platform, as well as optimizing and developing SOAR processes to improve incident response efficiency and effectiveness.

Prior to this role, I worked as a penetration tester, focusing on the security of web and mobile applications, as well as APIs.

My diverse roles and responsibilities have provided me with a deep understanding of both attacker and defender perspectives. These insights enable me to elevate security automation at TEF to the next level.

Marco Otero

Well, I have been working for the company for more than 25 years now, since one day in April, in my last year of university, I saw a poster advertising internships for companies and decided to sign up. And since then, I have been very happy until today.

For that reason alone, I could say that I have been with Telefónica all my life. The reality is that I have been linked to Telefónica all my life, since I was born. My maternal grandparents ran the switchboard in a small town in Segovia, Madrona, and I grew up between plugs and cable towers in my living room. In addition, both my father and mother have been employees of the company until their retirement. So, for me, talking about Telefónica is talking about my family and my second home.

Anabel Sánchez-Rico

Since 1992 my professional development as a management secretary has been in different national and multinational companies. I joined the Telefónica Group in 2010 at TIWS. In September 2016 I joined Telxius, specifically in the company Telxius Cable España (created in April of that year) providing support as Assistant to the Network/Operations and Marketing Departments.

I consider myself a facilitator and enriched by having been able to help in the training of colleagues and solve doubts regarding the most used systems such as travel management, settlements, in SAP environment or any other kind, and if I do not know the answer, I investigate. I love the atmosphere of ‘optimism’ and I do my best to encourage it, working happily… it’s doubly rewarding.

I joined Telefónica last century, that’s nothing … in 1997. During more than a quarter of a century, I experienced many changes and I had the opportunity (and still do) to grow personally and professionally in every area I have been in.

Valuing my time at Telefónica is something natural for me, because at Telefónica I have gone through all my professional stages and it is an inseparable part of my life. It may sound trite, but this house is an extension of our families of origin.

Óscar García

I started at Telefónica de España in 2014 for a one-year scholarship from the SEPI foundation, and in July 2015 I joined the staff, in the data platforms and new business engineering team, which at the time was part of the general management of Services and Systems Development. For me, between the fact that I had only recently left university and that what I had studied had little or nothing to do with telecommunications, the truth is that I had the feeling of entering a completely new world. As I always say when I am asked: I arrived here without knowing what an IP address was.

In engineering, we were dedicated to managing the capacity of value-added services for companies, on two levels: on the one hand, we sized from year to year what the capacity differential was going to be based on business forecasts, on the customer funnel. On the other hand, we also had to foresee obsolescence or architecture evolutions for some important change or to incorporate new functionalities to these services. We budgeted for these needs and executed them in production in the following year, in coordination with other technical groups, suppliers, in parallel with Support and Operations, and upstream with the areas of Service Development, Technology and Marketing.

In the next few years, about a year before the pandemic, we changed roles and put on the cap of end-to-end capacity planners. It was a bit like before, but leaving aside the engineering activity on the plant floor, to put all the focus on capacity management in its different aspects: compute, disk, licences?

And just with the pandemic, in November 2020 and teleworking from home, I ended up in Innovation, which is where I am now. I look back and these almost four years have flown by. What can I say? When I tell them what we do in Innovation, they are surprised and, although it’s wrong to say it, we are a bit envious (of the good kind) and I almost always hear ‘what cool things you do there’. As Telefónica is so big and touches so many verticals, I think this carries over to the way we work, so we take on very diverse pilot projects, always working with customers from very different sectors, implementing solutions with them that in the end are new ways of doing things, innovative products, processes or services, and which put the company’s technological capabilities to the test, especially the 5G mobile network.

In short, I feel very fortunate to be in what I believe is the best area of one of the best companies in Spain.

Nelson Alejandro Rodríguez

A leader in Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) project management and its applicability in improving efficiency and process optimisation, with a focus on generating new business opportunities that generate impact in all geographies.

During my 16 years of experience in pre-sales and sales support roles at Telefónica, I have acquired a deep understanding of the complete sales cycle, from identifying customer needs to obtaining the offer. This background has led me to participate in business acceleration projects in several countries, including Venezuela, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Spain and Brazil, which has provided me with a valuable global perspective.

My focus is on maximising the potential of technology tools. With Salesforce, I have been able to significantly improve reporting and its usefulness for sales forces, transforming it into a tool that not only gathers information, but also delivers it in a strategic way. I have also explored and tested AI use cases to optimise processes and increase efficiency in pre-sales bidding.

My extensive experience as an engineer, moving from technical basics to business development, gives me a holistic view of the sales cycle and how to improve it. This perspective motivates me to lead business acceleration projects and to be a strong advocate of the potential of AI in this area.

As a mountain climber, I understand the importance of moving step by step towards the top, valuing each step and enjoying the journey. This approach is reflected in my work, where I seek to achieve goals gradually and steadily, taking every opportunity to grow and improve.

Maite Altolaguirre
