Companies are beginning to explore the many new business opportunities it offers. However, we have learned from artificial intelligence that there are also possible negative ethical and social consequences associated with the massive use of these technologies.
Richard Benjamins (Chief AI & Data Strategist), Yaiza Rubio (Chief Metaverse Officer) and Chema Alonso (Chief Digital Officer) of Telefónica address this issue in a report called “Social and ethical challenges of the metaverse“, where they describe what the metaverse is, what technologies are part of its ecosystem and where it comes from. They then focus on the possible social and ethical risks of the metaverse and how to mitigate them. Finally, they conclude that companies that are currently implementing responsible use of AI are well prepared to prevent or mitigate the social and ethical risks of the metaverse. Not because they know the future, but because they have the adequate governance and culture to deal with such risks.
