Telefónica today hosted at its headquarters the VII Conference on Habeas Data and Artificial Intelligence, with representatives of the organizers of the event, the APEP· IA (Spanish Professional Association of Privacy and Artificial Intelligence) and ISKIPA Data Protection, together with European experts in the field and spokespersons for Telefónica, for whom the commitment to privacy is particularly relevant. The company leads the Digital Rights Ranking and Digital Inclusion Benchmark in their respective Privacy categories.
The opening of the conference was given by Miguel Recio, president of the APEP· AI; Lorenzo Cotino Hueso, president of the AEPD; and Pablo de Carvajal, general counsel and secretary of the board of directors of Telefónica. Carvajal stressed the importance of the balance between respect for fundamental rights and a vision that allows innovation, competitiveness and economic growth.
Antonio Muñoz Marcos, director of the Digital Compliance Office and DPO, explained to the audience Telefónica’s position on the European Commission’s Digital Omnibus proposal and its impact on Privacy and Artificial Intelligence, as well as the challenges in the framework of new technologies and cybersecurity.
The agenda of this VII Conference has included two round tables. The first of them has focused on the digital Omnibus in terms of data protection, and has addressed legislative simplification as an opportunity for business growth. The second has revolved around computer crimes and AI, and has addressed the irregular use of Artificial Intelligence in criminal activity, as well as deception or data exfiltration. Both have had prominent representatives of the world of Privacy, such as Cecilia Álvarez Rigaudias, EMEA Privacy Policy director of META, or Eloy Velasco, magistrate of the National Court, among others.
The last speech was given by Sonia Pérez Romero, head of the Artificial Intelligence Unit of the EDPS and representative of the European Data Protection Supervisor, who addressed the main regulatory challenges and shared the lessons learned to date in the field of AI.
The closing ceremony of the event featured various institutional presentations, including those of Alberto Gago, Director General of the Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence (AESIA), and Manuel Crespo, Chief Compliance Officer and Global Data Protection Officer of Telefónica.
