Telefónica España has acquired a 10% stake in OGA, the Seville-based company specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) and operations research to optimize critical processes in the industrial sector, with a focus on logistics, retail, energy, healthcare and defence.
The transaction combines the acquisition of the stake with a commercial and technical partnership to integrate the capabilities offered by OGA’s solutions into Telefónica’s portfolio of services for businesses and public administrations, enabling the company to provide an enhanced range of B2B services. The agreement does not provide for Telefónica to join OGA’s governing body, thereby preserving the company’s independence while contributing to Telefónica’s efforts to strengthen solutions that support digital sovereignty.
Javier López Gutiérrez, Director of Defence and Security at Telefónica España, said: “Our stake in OGA will enable us to strengthen our strategy in AI solutions applied to industry, with a particular focus on defence. In doing so, we continue to enhance our B2B offering as the best gateway to digital technologies for businesses and public administrations seeking to improve their competitiveness and innovation capabilities.”
Juan Carlos Rubio, CEO of OGA, added: “Telefónica joining OGA as a shareholder represents a strategic endorsement of our track record and technological capabilities. This partnership will enable us to accelerate the development of advanced artificial intelligence and decision-support solutions, while further strengthening our contribution to Spanish and European technological sovereignty in critical areas such as industry, defence and security.”
Founded 19 years ago, OGA is a dual-use deep-tech company headquartered in Seville (Camas), with an office in New York. It specializes in transforming data into actionable decision-making capabilities for complex and mission-critical environments through artificial intelligence, mathematical optimization, modelling and simulation.
With a team of more than 75 highly qualified professionals, including mathematicians, statisticians, engineers and data scientists, OGA also has a 14-member Technology Advisory Board comprising professors and researchers who work to accelerate knowledge transfer from academia to the business environment.
The Seville-based company has been working with Telefónica as a service provider for the past two years.
