“Smart Patrimonio”: a Telefónica solution that monitors and aids in preserving Heritage of Cultural Interest

Telefónica has put into operation an IoT (Internet of Things) technology solution in the Ávila wall (Spain), that will monitor, via 60 sensors, pre-emptive preservation of heritage. The initiative relies on a grant from UNESCO World  Heritage and the city of Ávilaitself.

Smart Patrimonio, implemented in collaboration with the Fundación Santa María la Real[Santa Maria la Real Foundation], will control temperature, humidity, light, Co2 emissions and solar radiation in the walled enclosure with the goal of making the best decisions regarding its conservation. This control obviously allows for reducing costs, making restoration investments profitable, improving the property’s image, and establishing an environmental and social commitment for the enjoyment of the heritage. Smart Patrimonio also includes improvements related to energy efficiency and security against despoilment or deterioration, and fires and floods.

Other examples of Telefónica solutions based on IoT, or led by Telefónica, are: Smart Santander, Smart Logroño, Valencia Ciudad Inteligente VLCi, OneClick o Click&Pizza.
