The acronym B2C stands for Business to Consumer. It refers to a business model in which a company sells directly to end customers. In the telecommunications sector, this segment is commonly known as the mass market. It refers to a business model in which a company sells products or services directly to the end consumer. In other words, the transaction takes place between the company and the person who will use that product or service

What are its main characteristics?

B2C customers represent the general population. They are ‘individual’ customers who have a telephone line for personal use. They are very diverse in terms of their demographic profile.

What benefits does it offer?

B2C represents the largest segment of mobile phone customers. For example, in Venezuela, they account for 95% of the total.

How does it differ from B2B?

Whilst B2C focuses on the individual, B2B (Business to Business) refers to commercial transactions between companies. In Spanish, we refer to them as Corporate Customers.

The main differences lie in the scale and complexity of their needs:

  • Purpose of the service: Unlike personal use, in B2B mobile lines are a work tool. The service is designed to ensure the operational efficiency and productivity of employees.
  • Centralised management: Companies manage their resources in an organised manner, establishing controls over usage plans, data limits and specific benefits according to the employee’s role.
  • Volume and customisation: Purchases of handsets (smartphones) are made in large quantities and often to very precise technical specifications to meet security standards or corporate software requirements.
  • High-capacity products: B2B customers often require what we call ‘robust solutions’, such as dedicated internet, private data links and cybersecurity services that are not typically offered in the mass market.

What examples of B2C exist?

Any mass-market retail business such as supermarkets, department stores, and food chains, as well as, of course, the individual customers served by telecommunications companies.

How does B2C relate to the rise of new technologies?

The general public is the main consumer of technology. Although businesses use advanced tools, it is the end consumer who drives the improvements we see today:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI): Applied in virtual assistants and personalisation features that make everyday life easier.
  • High-resolution cameras: Driven by the rise of social media.
  • Photo and video editing: Simplified tools for the average user.

How does B2C relate to the rise of new technologies?

The general public is a major consumer of technology. Many of the improvements we are seeing are aimed at this audience: cameras, photo editing and the use of AI, whilst they have applications for businesses, are driven by the end consumer.
