Tell us a little about yourself. What does your job at Telefónica involve?
I am Richard Queiroz, a computer engineer at Cloud\OnPrimese with solid experience in digital transformation, currently at Vivo (Telefónica Brazil). Throughout my professional career, I have evolved from operational functions to a strategic role in the adoption and management of technologies in my projects.
I consider myself an expert in the creation, migration and maintenance of Cloud\OnPrimese services, with advanced knowledge of multiple providers, including Microsoft Azure, VMware and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). I have participated in major migration projects, including the transition of Terra Mexico to the AVS environment.
I have advanced knowledge of virtualisation with VMware and Citrix, with an emphasis on resource optimisation, scalability, and high availability. These skills are essential for aligning the technological infrastructure with the demands of the contemporary corporate environment, always with a focus on excellence and innovation.
How would you define virtualisation?
Virtualisation is the art of transforming physical hardware into multiple isolated and efficient environments. Instead of relying on one machine per system, we can create multiple virtual systems that share the same physical resources. This not only reduces equipment costs, but also increases the flexibility, resilience and agility of IT environments. It is the basis of modern cloud computing.
What about system administration?
System administration is the practice of ensuring that all infrastructure (servers, services, operating systems, and applications) is available, secure, and functioning properly. This involves everything from applying patches and monitoring logs to automating processes with scripts and maintaining backup and security policies. It’s like being the silent guardian who ensures that everything works, even when no one notices.
How are these two concepts related?
Virtualisation and systems administration go hand in hand. Virtualisation provides the structure, while systems administration ensures that structure functions properly. Together, they form the foundation of any modern IT environment. Properly managing a virtualised environment requires mastery of virtualisation, automation, and monitoring tools, as well as a clear view of the architecture as a whole.
Why is information security so important?
Information security is what ensures that company data—and, more importantly, people’s data—is protected from leaks, unauthorised access and loss. In times of increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks, neglecting security is like leaving the door to a safe open. Customer trust and business success depend directly on the protection of information.
What are the best measures to protect critical data?
Some of the best practices include:Encryption of data in transit and at rest:
- Regular and tested backups
- Multi-factor authentication (MFA)
- Network segmentation and access control
- Audits and continuous monitoring
- Team education and awareness
