Diversity

When we have professional with different ways of living and thinking, we can have different perspectives and achieve positive change within the organisation, thus creating innovative products and services.

At a company like Telefónica, with a team with over 100 nationalities, we consider diversity to be strategic. In fact, it is part of the Global Responsible Business Plan -a plan which is approved by the company's Board of Directors- as well as by the Responsible Business plans for each country. Our goal is to promote the inclusion of people with different cultures, genders, sexual orientations, generations, skills, abilities and so on.

The Company’s first level has committed to this issue through the Global Diversity Council, lead by Laura Abasolo, a member of our Executive Committee. Comprised of promoters of diversity in operations, its mission is to guarantee multiculturalism, and a diversity of gender, profiles and experiences among our professionals, as a key towards digital transformation.

Internal Policies –the Policy for Diversity and Inclusion and the Policy for Naming Executives- also help us promote difference, meritocracy and transparency.

 

We guarantee the representation of at least one woman in 100% of the processes for naming and promoting executives.

Equality in the workplace would increase global GDP by up to 26% in 2025.

  • Diverse culture: We believe that training and awareness are the seeds to the advance of diversity. The value of difference, unconscious prejudices and bias, and the importance of inclusive leadership are some of the topics we deal with in our workshops, MOOC and online courses.
  • Education and talent: For years we have been encouraging young talent with TalentumSchools, TalentumStartups, Think Big, Crowdworking, Talentum Empleo and Miríada X, initiatives that reach up to 100,000 people in different countries. 

To all of this we add Join, which arose from the talent of youth integrated into the Telefónica LABs program, and which is managed by the youth themselves. With training, grants, hackathones and meetings, we want to support digital transformation.

In parallel, we collaborate with Girls in Tech (GIT), a not-for-profit organisation that seeks to educate and empower women and girls with STEM careers who are passionate about technology.

  • Entrepreneurship: Women’s Age is Telefónica Open Future’s initiative to support female entrepreneurs. Women are the true protagonists of the meetings -Impact Innovation Talks and Cocktails&Net- and inspiring talks.
  • LGBT: Telefónica is among the companies with the best practices and strategy in Spain for sexual and gender diversity management, according to the EMIDIS 2016 ranking.
