Diversity

“We encourage equal opportunities and treat all people in a fair and impartial manner, without prejudice as to race, colour, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, age, and disability or family responsibilities”. This is the definition of the fundamental right to equality, safeguarded by the Business Principles  of Telefónica.

In a company with a team comprised by almost 100 nationalities, heterogeneity is an accurate reflection of what our customers are composed of and it encourages creativity. When we can count on employees offering various different ways of thinking or living, we are able to have different perspectives and make positive changes within the organisation, as well as to create innovative products and services.

At Telefónica, we advocate equality between men and women and apply specific measures such as equality plans, protocols, training and awareness plans… In addition, new technologies help us in terms of conciliation as these allow different forms of flexible labour. To help the promotion of diversity among our staff, during 2016, we established the Global Diversity Council of Telefónica, leaded by Laura Abasolo, member of the Executive Comitee of Telefónica.

In 2015, 37.7% of the workforce consisted of women and 19.1% of them were in top Management.

Although most of our employees are between the ages of 35 and 54, we at Telefónica support young talent from the digital natives ‘generation, paramount in an industry as dynamic as ours. Thanks to specific programs such as Talentum Universities, we are looking for young people who take interest in the customer, and show an ability to work in a team and able to anticipate the challenges of change. Thus, in 2015, 47% of our employees under age of 30 are women.

On the other hand, we have always been aware of the need to advance on the path of diversity, focusing on the labour integration of people with disabilities and special needs. In addition, since 1977, we have counted on the support of ATAM, a Non-Profit Association working for the inclusion benefiting more than 17,000 people.
