Telefónica and its ESG certifications: a commitment to sustainability

One step further in responsible management

At Telefónica, we believe sustainability is not just a goal, it’s a way of doing business. That’s why we hold certifications that validate our commitment to ESG (environmental, social and governance). These certifications are not an end in themselves, but a tool to drive continuous improvement, build trust and meet the expectations of our stakeholders.

ISO 26000 (SR10): social responsibility embedded in our strategy

Telefónica S.A. was certified in May 2025 under ISO 26000 in accordance with the SR10 standard, which sets out the requirements for a Social Responsibility Management System. This certification confirms the integration of ethical, social and environmental principles into our day-to-day operations, strengthening stakeholder engagement and ensuring compliance with both legal and voluntary commitments. AENOR issued the certification, which is valid for three years, with annual reviews.

ISO 19600 and UNE 19601: compliance with a preventive approach

In April 2023, Telefónica obtained the UNE 19601 certification, recognising the implementation of a Criminal Compliance Management System aligned with Spanish regulations. Based on ISO 19600 and adapted to the Spanish Penal Code, this system helps us prevent legal risks, foster a culture of integrity and reinforce compliance across the organisation. The certification, issued by AENOR, remains valid until April 2026.

ISO 45001: safe and healthy working environments

Telefónica was awarded the ISO 45001 certification in April 2023 by AUDELCO, confirming the implementation of an Occupational Health and Safety Management System in line with international standards. This system is designed to prevent workplace accidents and illnesses, and to promote safe and healthy working conditions. The certification is valid until April 2026.

ISO 50001: energy efficiency as a driver of sustainability

In addition, Telefónica obtained the ISO 50001 certification for the first time in March 2017, with the most recent renewal in 2023. This certification confirms the existence of an effective Energy Management System, helping us reduce costs and environmental impact, and improve energy efficiency. AENOR issued the certification, which is valid until March 2026.
