Tell us a little about yourself. What does your job at Telefónica involve?
I manage a team of three managers and 50 engineers, who are responsible for ensuring the availability of Telefónica Mexico’s technological systems. My mission is to ensure that millions of customers enjoy a reliable service.
How would you define the tasks of an IT operations manager?
They are the invisible orchestrator who ensures that the company never stops. Through strategic vision, culture and company values, they seek to promote proactivity alongside their team, always with Telefónica’s interests in mind.
What benefits does this bring?
It ensures customer confidence and satisfaction, always hand in hand with business continuity. It inspires the team to turn technology into an enabler of growth.
What are the main professional profiles found in this position?
Systems and telecommunications engineers, security experts, cloud architects and project leaders, all with a common denominator: the ability to solve complex problems in real time with a service mindset.
What does it take to operate, support and maintain a company’s entire IT application catalogue?
The most important thing is that I strive to ensure that my team has a balance between their work and personal lives. I promote combining agile methodologies with automation and predictive monitoring.
How does the development of new technologies affect this?
It has forced us to reinvent ourselves. This operation is now completely different from what it was five years ago. We are ready for the era of “AI agentisation”.
Which people working at Telefónica would you nominate for this interview who you consider to be excellent at their job?
I have had the honour of working closely with an incredible engineer who does not receive the recognition he deserves. His name is Hugo Hernán Cortés Henríquez, he works for the operator Telefónica Chile, and I think it would be very valuable to hear from him.
