Tell us a little about yourself. What does your job at Telefónica involve?

I joined Telefónica in 2013 after several years working in business consulting. Since then, I have been part of the Wholesale Business area in different units within it.

How would you define the position of head of engineering in the wholesale business?

As head of engineering, our main task, together with the rest of the management team, is to reach commercial agreements that benefit the company, seeking maximum customer satisfaction while maintaining a high level of quality in all our processes.

What are your main responsibilities?

More specifically, our department specialises in leading the entire pre-sales process: defining business strategies, designing services and specific solutions for customers, preparing technical and financial proposals, accompanying and supporting the sales department, and drafting contracts. All of this is done in a coordinated and cross-functional manner with multiple departments, both within our management team and with many other colleagues.

On a personal level, my main role is to support my team in achieving all the objectives we set ourselves. A fantastic group of professionals and colleagues that I couldn’t be prouder to belong to.

What are the benefits?

Our main objectives are focused on maximising revenue, cash flow and margin from wholesale service sales, seeking sustainable agreements that benefit all parties.

What types of professional profiles are there?

We are a diverse group with both technical and business profiles. We must have a very solid technical foundation, combined with financial and investment analysis knowledge that allows us to properly evaluate different opportunities.

At the same time, a broad and deep business vision is an essential requirement, and finally, I believe that a fundamental and increasingly relevant characteristic is to be flexible, agile and reliable in the face of different and increasingly changing situations.

How does the emergence of new technologies affect you?

It affects us fundamentally. On the one hand, new technologies are in demand by our customers, which forces us to meet those needs and therefore requires us to be trained and have the necessary skills and abilities. At the same time, we need new technologies in our day-to-day work to be able to deal effectively and sustainably with the increasingly complex environments in which we find ourselves.

Which people working at Telefónica would you nominate for this interview who you consider to be excellent at their job?

I nominate my colleague Belén Carmen Calvet Bardají, from Legal Advice, for her extensive knowledge, ability and attitude. In particular, her collaboration with us in drafting contracts is fundamental and goes far beyond excellent writing and legal advice. Her vision and ability to understand and integrate different concepts into very complex agreements, as well as her commitment, tenacity and dedication, are undoubtedly a privilege enjoyed by those of us who work with her.
