Sebas Muriel Herrero

Chief Digital Officer Telefónica, and CEO Telefónica Innovación Digital

Born in Madrid, Spain, in October 1973.

Mr. Sebas Muriel Herrero was appointed in April 2025 to the Executive Committee of the Telefónica Group as Chief Digital Officer of the company, CEO of Telefónica Innovación Digital and Board member of Wayra. In this role, he is at the forefront of the strategy for technology, innovation, data, platforms and new digital products and services.

Muriel has accumulated over two decades of experience in senior management roles across various companies in the industry, with a proven track record in digital business and transformation strategy within large corporations.

From January 2022 until his return to Telefónica, he was CEO of WPP Media in Spain, the global leader in advertising, marketing, and creative transformation services.

This will be his second tenure at Telefónica, where he has already spent 11 years carrying out different responsibilities. He was the CEO of Tuenti Technologies and then Telefónica’s global director of Customer Experience.

Sebas has previously developed his career in several technology companies, including Hewlett Packard, Lucent Technologies (Bell Labs) and PwC, until his appointment as CEO of red.es.

He is a regular author of papers, publications, conferences and actively participates in sectoral congresses (e.g. he was appointed to WEF – Leaders for European Growth and Competitiveness forum). Muriel is also a Business Angel and investor in different start-ups and has been a member of the Academic Council of ISDI (Digitalent Group) since its foundation. More recently, he has also become a member of the Advisory Board of Aramón.

Mr. Sebas Muriel Herrero holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, an Executive MBA from IESE Business School (University of Navarra), an International Digital Business Seminar, ISDI – Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard, and a Finance Development Program qualification from the Instituto de Empresa.
