In the context of the constant evolution of mobile networks, Telefónica Brasil identified a significant challenge this year in managing the logical expansion of radio carriers: dependence on external suppliers to carry out this activity generated high costs, reduced operational flexibility and limited technical knowledge, hindering the adaptation and scalability of current and future processes.
Agile strategy with scalability for the future
Faced with this scenario, the company implemented a strategy of internalising activities and their respective automation, led by its Radio Access technical team.
The process, which involves the expansion of radio carriers in more than 300 sites and the use of 700 MHz secondary spectrum, was supported by the development of automated solutions in Python for site configuration, baseline validation and optimisation of mobility between technologies (3G, 4G and 5G), taking advantage of the existing hardware infrastructure. This initiative consolidated internal knowledge and streamlined execution by standardising scripts and procedures, validated in the laboratory and through reverse engineering.
With a real impact on the business
The results obtained reflect a significant impact:
- The duration of activities was reduced from 4-5 hours to an average of 30 minutes each.
- The number of works carried out daily increased from 2-3 works per day to 8-10 works per day.
- Automation significantly reduced errors and strengthened the quality of deliveries.
- The team gained greater technical autonomy and the ability to adapt solutions to future network needs, ensuring operational sustainability.
- A significant reduction in costs was achieved.
