Global Compact communication on progress
Telefónica signed up to the Global Compact Principles in 2002. Since then, the Company has reported annually on its commitment to this initiative, the application of the 10 Principles, and the assessment of the results obtained from the policies applied in order to comply.
In 2004, the Office for the United Nations Global Compact made the so-called Integrity Measures public. These aim to safeguard the credibility of the initiative and of the companies which signed up to it. Companies which signed up to the 10 Global Compact Principles are urged to issue progress reports, i.e. to publicly communicate, through their Annual Reports, websites or other media, on the incorporation of the said Principles into their business strategy.
Public communications should include the following three elements:
- A declaration of continuing support for the Global Pact in the opening letter, statement or or message from the Chief Executive, Chairman or other high-ranking official. (To be found in the Chairman's letter, which appears in the report).
- A description of the practical measures taken by participants to apply the principles of the Global Pact during the previous financial year.
- A quantification of the results achieved or predicted using, as far as is possible, indicators or systems such as those drawn up by GRI (Global Reporting Initiative). (Both points are laid down in the Progress Report).
This section details the main landmarks passed in the implementation of the Global Compact Principles in 2008..
For detailed information and indicators concerning compliance with the principles see our online report (www.telefonica.es/rc08), the
GRI tables and the audit of these tables.
