Responsible Purchasing

As with business success, recognition as a responsible company also depends on the behaviour of the company's suppliers. Because of this, Telefónica offers its suppliers training in CR and includes ethical clauses in the Conditions for the Supply of Goods that they sign.
Furthermore, since 2007 the Group has had the
Regulation for the Extension of the Business Principles to the Supply Chain. This establishes guidelines to ensure that all suppliers provide information to the Company regarding their behaviour with regard to key aspects of CR and, for those determined of "high or moderate risk" in an analysis carried out of the whole supply chain, Telefónica applies a more detailed evaluation process, which can result in plans for improvement. Furthermore, the policy includes the possibility of carrying out on site audits in order to evaluate the practices of suppliers in greater detail.
By the end of 2008 more than 1,100 evaluations had been carried out (10% more than the target set), along with 55 audits of suppliers. These figures represent approximately 50% of the Telefónica's "high or moderate risk" suppliers.
At the same time, the
Rules Regarding the Purchase of Products and Services from Socially-Conscious Suppliers, approved in 2007, describes and establishes the mechanisms to encourage the awarding of work to social entities that work to promote the inclusion in the work market of people at risk of social exclusion (includes the right of first refusal in processes and the exoneration of quotas for the use of the e-commerce platform).
This regulation applies to Special Employment Centres, non-profit organisations, companies associated with immigrant groups, victims of domestic violence, ex-prisoners and the families of children benefitting from the Proniño programme, among others.
