This summer protect your digital identity with Latch

Movistar and Tuenti are implementing the Latch digital identities protection service against intruders. From now on, users will be able to take control when exposed to digital threats.

 

When the alarm involving the Heartbleed global security loophole sounded back in April of this year, in our Public Policy blog, we had already highlighted some of the advantages that the Latch service would have had for any user. In spite of the fact that our lives are increasingly leaving a greater imprint behind in the digital world, many of the companies that store our data are not fully aware of the danger of not adequately protecting our data against intruders.

 

It is for this reason that little by little, we welcome those companies that are gradually offering security tools adapted to recent times, such as Latch, i.e. the digital latch that will only allow access via your passwords whenever you indicate this. Tuenti and Movistar are two of the initial platforms offering this service to all its users. From now on, any user of these services will be able to deactivate his digital identity whenever he is not using it.

 

Imagine for a moment that someone, for some reason, knows the password for accessing your Tuenti account or your Movistar services: if he wanted to, he would have the possibility to access your account and you would have no reason to find out about it.

 

In order to avoid this problem, in December of last year, Eleven Paths launched Latch, a brilliant yet simple access management tool.  This service offers you the possibility of turning your digital identity on or off depending on whether you are going to use it or not.

 

As the team in charge of service at Latch explains, if you are not using digital services 24 hours a day, then why allow hackers the ability to access them at any time of the day?  So whenever you go on vacation you will be able to disconnect your digital identities knowing that although someone may know your passwords, it will be impossible for them to gain access.

 

The first point of the Decalogue of the Telefónica Digital Manifesto calls for the strengthening of digital confidence and the creation of a more secure Internet experience, relying on the users themselves to take control over their personal data.  Accordingly Movistar and Tuenti are implementing the Latch service for all users.  Months of testing have taken place, which are finally bearing fruit by offering this identity theft protection tool to users free of charge.
