HEALTH AND SAFETY
Telefónica offers employees a safe working environment by establishing adequate mechanisms to avoid workplace accidents, injuries and illnesses associated with professional activity through strict compliance with all regulations, training and preventative management for occupational hazards.Safety and hygiene management is an integral part of the company's activity. Telefónica's management is committed to current workplace hazard management, which is defined in the implementation of a prevention system that facilitates planning, implementation and above all, integration at all hierarchial levels.
All Telefónica employees have received sufficient and appropriate theoretical/practical information and training on the prevention of workplace hazards specific to the activities they are involved in. Workers undertaking tasks involving specific hazards have the required qualifications, experience and training.
There are also regulations for the actions to take in case of emergency and evacuation. In order to properly implement and develop these regulations, employees are provided with equipment, tools and IPE's suitable for the professional activities they perform.
In 1997 in Spain, Telefónica's Administrative Council established its preventive policy with the constitution of the Joint Health and Safety Service (JHSS).
JHSS management is a specific multidisciplinary organizational unit, which manages two large areas: Prevention of workplace hazards, which includes safety, hygiene, ergonomics and psychosociology and the occupational heath area related to the specialist area of occupational medicine.
In 2008, JHSS management was designated as an internal centre of competence, with the aim to extend a consistent preventive policy to the rest of the group. Among others, its competencies include the assessment of prevention, health and safety, establishing workplace procedures, identifying and extending improved practices.
