Waste generated by Telefónica itself
The main waste types generated by Telefónica are waste electrical and electronic equipment (2,500 tonnes in 2008), infrastructure-related waste (37,200 tonnes), and waste batteries, also from the network (1,500 tonnes).
WASTE MANAGEMENT AT TELEFÓNICA
In waste management Telefónica promotes the three R's: Reduce, Re-use and Recycle. We handle both our own operational and office waste and our customers' waste materials on the basis of their specific type, using licensed waste management firms.
Waste is one of the company's main environmental impacts. We generate waste at our offices and in network rollout, in the construction, operation and maintenance, and final dismantling of assets.
Keeping faith with its commitment to the environment, Telefónica promotes the three R's: Reduce, Re-use and Recycle.
Our waste comprises a range of different materials, each of which is managed separately on the basis of hazardousness. We always use licensed waste managers. There are two broad categories of waste generation at Telefónica:
- Waste generated by Telefónica itself: waste generated by the company in its internal operations, chiefly waste electrical and electronic equipment from the network, batteries, and office waste.
- Waste generated by customers: waste from customers mainly comprises mobile handsets and mobile telephony accessories.
