Session description
CAF and Telefónica present the first low-latency 5G Edge scenario in Europe on a production network: a distributed sovereign cloud natively integrated with Telefónica’s 5G and fibre connectivity, aligned with the architecture promoted by the European Union.
Thanks to these computing and connectivity capabilities, Telefónica customers will be able to deploy their applications in a distributed manner across the country, in a fully assisted, simple and automated way. This inaugurates a new paradigm that immediately integrates the advantages of traditional cloud and on-premises deployments.
This pilot is part of the IPCEICIS initiative (Important Project of Common European Interest – Cloud Infrastructure and Services), coordinated by the European Commission, with participation from multiple Member States. Its goal is to place European companies in an optimal position to lead the next generation of digital services through differentiated, interconnected Edge technologies and infrastructure. In June 2021, Telefónica Spain’s proposal was the topranked nationally and was submitted to the IPCEI. Following the European Commission’s approval, the project has been funded through Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
