The Internet world is becoming mobile

According to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), 40% of the world’s population – approximately 3 billion people – are internet users and 77% of them – 2.3 billion people – access to it through their mobile handsets and smartphones.

In all world regions considered by the ITU – i.e. Africa, Arab States, Asia & Pacific, CIS, Europe and The Americas – both the fixed (wired)-broadband subscriptions and the mobile-broadband subscriptions have increased year by year since 2005 and 2010 respectively.

deduce the path that this revolution is taking: As the two charts below show, growth in mobile internet users is faster than in fixed broadband users.

• In China, a country where the Internet penetration rate is 47.9% (slightly above of the world average – 40%), 86% of the broadband subscriptions are mobile.

• In the USA, a country with 79.3% Internet penetration rate, 77% of the broadband subscriptions are mobile.
