Achieving secure Cloud Computing: the Telefónica Brazil data centre obtains maximum certification for operational sustainability and reliability
The Telefónica Brazil data centre in Tamboré obtained Tier Operational Sustainability Gold certification, in other words, the highest possible certification for this type of operations, therefore converting it into the first Tier III Data Centre in Latin America and sixth in the world, with one of the highest ratings ever scored: 99.36 out of 100 (the highest mark possible).
The Tier Operational Sustainability certification compares and ranks the degree of operational excellence in the critical facilities of a data centre, and assesses its operational sustainability and reliability. It does so by evaluating 31 processes with 89 subsections, such as planning and execution of facility and equipment maintenance and handling, the team's level of specialisation and training, the management of contracts for after-sales service, cost management, obsolescence management, the training and retraining of professionals, crisis plans, security policies, best practices, capacity management, risk management, communication plans and interaction with other departments. Certification has been granted by the Uptime Institute, an internationally recognised body in the field of data centres and mission critical operations.
The Telefónica Brazil data centre had already obtained Tier III classification during the planning and construction phases, in terms of capacity for reaction and maintenance flexibility without affecting IT operations. The unit building was designed and constructed to achieve a preparedness level of 99.982%.
