ICTs and Intellectual Property

Telefónica is convinced that respect for intellectual property rights benefits everyone. For this reason, we collaborate with all sectors involved (public administration, intellectual property rights owners and consumers) in order to promote responsible and correct use of material through electronic communications networks.

To achieve this, Telefónica encourages correct use of the internet by making content available through its own services and by participating in education and training projects about respect for intellectual property. Telefónica assumes a responsibility to collaborate with public administrations, intellectual property rights management entities, NGOs, parents, teachers, etc. in order to encourage responsible use of technology.

Services and content offerings

Quality and speed of access to content as well as fair pricing are key factors in fostering legality. In line with the idea of protecting and promoting intellectual property, Telefónica has developed various platforms that encourage lawful access to content in all the territories in which it operates.

Examples of these are IP television, DTH and cable services, which offer channel services, Video On Demand and Pay Per View in Spain (Imagenio), Latin America (Telefónica TV Digital, Cablemágico) and the Czech Republic (O2TV).

The different services offered to internet users should also be highlighted, including the Terra Portal and its various platforms such as Pixbox, Terra TV and Sonora.

Additionally, Telefónica continues to offer al kinds of content through mobile networks. For example, new mobile TV services in Latin America and Spain as well as download services for music, images, videos and games through the Movistar e-moción portals in Spain and Latin America and O2 Active in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

These platforms are widely accepted by the public and offer access to content through different models (transactional, subscriptions and in some cases free with advertising), which are fast and safe, with a wide range of content that has been acquired in compliance with IP regulations and complies with the requirements to make it available to users.
