  • Integration of management systems at Telefónica Spain
Telefónica's fixed and mobile businesses in Spain are gradually integrating. Processes, too, are being fitted together into a larger whole, and this also applies to our Environmental Managament Systems. At present, the Group runs two distinct EMSs, both certified to ISO 14001. We are therefore conducting a nation-wide survey to pinpoint areas for improvement and place them in order of priority by environmental risk. The study looks at potential non-compliance with statutory requirements, management issues, resource organization, and other topics, and makes an in-depth appraisal of all Telefónica's present territories, going beyond technical operations to examine market-facing assets such as our shops, payphones and booths. The survey will serve as the basis for a plan to integrate our present systems, to be completed in stages by order of critical significance. The project will reach completion upon achievement of a common single certification.

By this project, Telefónica seeks to accomplish the strategic lines of action framed at the Group level, and to:

·    Lead environmental strategy in the telecommunications industry
·    Enhance its image among our stakeholders
·    Open up new business opportunities
·    Reduce environmental risks and their costs
·    Avoid environmental fines
·    Improve process efficiency
·    Benefit from aid and subsidies and facilitate dealings and procedures with government bodies

  • Widening of the scope of our EMS certification in Spain (Telefónica R&D)
In 2008 the scope of our Environmental Management System certification was extended to cover Telefónica's R&D headquarters at our calle Reyes Católicos site in Granada. The certificate now returns to comprehensive coverage of the company's sites in Spain.

  • Renewal of EMS certification in Spain (T-Soluciones)
In July 2008 Telefónica Soluciones had its Environmental Management System (GA 2005/0319) renewed, with the introduction of two new sites to its scope: the Tres Cantos data management centre and the Norte 2 building at Distrito C.
