En July 2008, Telefónica began marketing the Nokia 3110 Evolve, the first green mobile on the market, built from recyclable materials. In the United Kingdom, Telefónica launched a Universal Charger that offers energy savings of 2.8 kWh/year.
While working on the development of efficient ICT services, the Company has also began marketing more energy-efficient equipment: for example, in Spain it has launched the Nokia 3110 Evolve, the first mobile handset built from recycled materials and offering low energy consumption, selling 17,262 units in the first five months, and also introduced the Universal Charger, already used by 5,000 customers in the UK and offering individual energy savings of 2.8 kWh per year.
For 2009, the aim is to extend the range of products of this type and thus continue to combat climate change.
