Telefónica Spain is rolling out 14 energy efficiency projects that should save € 11.9 million in 2009
In 2008 Telefónica Spain set up a working group charged with transforming the energy consumption model of its fixed and mobile operations and thus fostering efficiency.
It identified 14 initiatives for efficient energy resource management that could be rapidly implemented. Of these 14, four were designed to achieve direct savings in energy procurement costs while the other ten sought reduced energy consumption. The saving is expected to be 57.7 MWh, which would equate to approximately 25,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.
In addition, a further battery of projects designed in conjunction with companies at the cutting edge of energy efficiency solutions (ESCOs, or Energy Service Companies) with which Telefonica is seeking to conclude cost sharing and saving agreements has been developed.
Overall, approximately 30 projects have been defined, which between them offer potential energy savings for the company of € 11.0 million in 2009.
