Awareness-raising and commitment

As part of its action plan for Employees, the Climate Change Office have set two key targets: firstly, to reduce the energy consumed by Telefónica staff by 10% by 2015 and, secondly, to foster a culture of awareness in relation to climate change and energy efficiency.

The Climate Change Office's Employees action plan, which is led by the HR Management and Administration Division, sets two interlinked targets: firstly, to reduce the energy consumed in the daily activities of Telefónica staff by 10% (1) by 2015, and, secondly, to foster a culture of awareness in relation to climate change and energy efficiency.

To this end, in the course of last year Telefónica continued its drive to introduce new working models built around employee mobility (e.g.teleworking) that not only give employees greater flexiblity but also, in that they encourage working from home, prevent unnecessary travel.

At the close of 2008, 2,849 employees were teleworkers, while 5,420 benefitted from some other form of mobile working model. The contribution of these initiatives in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions is due to be assessed in 2009.
