Universal Service

In 2008, Telefónica contributed 275 million euros to making sure telecommunications services are accessible to all in Latin America, Spain and Europe.

The Universal Service guarantees connection for all citizens to a fixed line telephony service and an adequate supply of public payphones, as well as access to a telephone information service.

Telefónica, as a leading operator in the markets in which it operates and in compliance with its commitments to generating confidence and being in touch with its customers, meets all regulatory requirements associated with the Universal Service, and is involved in numerous initiatives aimed at reducing the digital divide in the areas in which it operates.
