Educared

Education is the key to the future and for this reason the Telefónica Foundation focuses its efforts within this sphere and, in particular, the incorporation of Information and Communication Technologies in schools via the EducaRed programme.

This programme was created in 1998 by the Telefónica Foundation, along with the main organisations within the Spanish educational community, to promote educational use of the Network for the benefit of teachers, students, parents and educational centres. Throughout the years, EducaRed, which covers Latin America and is aimed at all countries that teach all or part of its population in Spanish, has become a benchmark educational initiative for Spanish speaking countries and includes pre-school education up to university access.

EducaRed Virtual

The EducaRed initiative is supported by the Internet portal of the same name, where you can follow all of its activities, access special content and use tools which have been developed for teaching purposes and online group work.
The portals were created in Spain in 1998, in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru in 2002, in Colombia and Mexico in 2007 and in Venezuela in 2008.

New products presented in this area in 2008 include:

  • EducaLab: a tool for the collective creation of knowledge, based on Web 2.0 technology and developed for educational purposes. Developed within the framework of CEFA (EducaRed Centre for Advanced Training), this project consists of the creation of a digital wall on which, individually or in collaboration, the users (teachers and students) can enter multimedia or text content which can be browsed through
  • Software Libre: this new section aims to help educate all teachers on open source and free software in a simple way, not only from a technical point of view but an educational one also
  • EducaRed Televisión: in 2008 EducaRed undertook an ambitious initiative: the launch of online educational television (EducaRedTV)

For 2009, one of the Telefónica Foundation's main efforts will be the development and implementation of Portal Global EducaRed 2.0, an initiative to create one single EducaRed portal, which would include all the existing content, tools and services, so that the portal would have an international character while maintaining the local characteristics
specific to each country.

EducaRed Formación

In 2008, the Telefónica Foundation continued its efforts to provide greater access to ICTs in educational centres and, in particular, for those members of the educational community that are still not familar with these. Last year, 51,770
people took part in 249 training initiatives provided online, on-site or a mixture of the two; the initiatives included 606,787 hours of training.

New products presented in this area in 2008 include:

  • Profesores Innovadores: this portal and online forum is one of EducaRed's most valued sections. It has been designed using Microsoft technology and provides training for teachers and allows them to develop their professional skills and exchange knowledge and innovative activities
  • EducaParty: this was held in Zaragoza in January 2008. It was an educational and recreational meeting for non-university teachers with Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and with other colleagues who already use EducaRed Formación in their teaching work

What would the EducaRed programme like to achieve in 2009-2011?

  • Develop and implement the Portal Global EducaRed project, which will combine all the portals and homogenise the content. This initiative will provide the EducaRed community with a platform equipped with the most
advanced technology and the most innovative Internet resources
  • Promote the permanent launch of cutting edge tools and content, making it a benchmark for educational innovation in Spain and Latin America. An observatory will be established for this work and different reports on technology applied to communication will be published
  • Continue to offer teachers, students and parents relevant and quality training (online, onsite and mixed) on cutting edge educational technology, using new channels such as Web 2.0 or digital television. Reinforce the existing EducaRed communities and foster the emergence of new ones
  • Increase and consolidate the convergence of EducaRed and Proniño programmes
  • Improve onsite activities by expanding the existing projects or developing new ones, both in Spain and Latin America, and evaluating to what extent they meet the needs of their participants
  • Renew the existing institutional alliances and collaboration agreements and identify new strategic allies with whom to collaborate.
