Accessibility

Accessibility 360º is a global response from Telefónica for people with disabilities.Accessibility is a concept which has increasingly become an integral part of the company's DNA.

The Telefónica Group's commitment to people with disabilities dates back over 30 years, backed by numerous activities and projects initiated by both ATAM (the Telefónica Support Group for People with Disabilities) and the Telefónica Foundation. This work is indispensable from a social point of view but there is still a long way to go.

In the last four years (2004-2008) Telefónica has made great efforts to meet the needs of this group among its employees, customers, suppliers and society in general. It applies this policy throughout the company, in both internal and external processes, while from a business perspective it aims to ensure the sustainability of the process, by integrating the interests of end users and those of the company.

These aims have been pursued through a project coordinated and promoted by Telefónica S.A.'s Corporate Social Responsibility division, with the technical support of Telefónica R&D, and always subject to the feedback and supervision of people with disabilities through the main associations and organisations representing them, who form part of the extensive network of contributors set up for this purpose.

In the 2008 AUTELSI (Spanish Association for Users of Telecommunications and the Information Society) awards this effort was rewarded with the prize for the best "Project for the Development of the Information Society".

Once a need has been identified, work started on meeting it, and the commitment made a part of our planning, a new stage begins, in which the different sections of the company take over to ensure and improve accessibility in more specific ways according to their competences and strategies.
