Board of Directors
The Board of Telefónica Europe plc is responsible for the overall Group strategy and competent management of the affairs of the Group. The Board comprises the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer, eight Executive Directors and seven Non-Executive Directors.
Ms. Eva Castillo
Chairwoman and Chief Executive Office of Telefónica Europe
Born in Madrid in 1962. Ms. Castillo holds BA Degrees in Business, Economics and Law from Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE, E– 3) in Madrid.
She is 1st Vice Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Telefónica Czech Republic, S.A., member of the Board of Directors of Old Mutual, Plc. (company listed on the London and Johannesburg Stock Exchange) and member of the board of Bankia and of the Comillas-ICAI Foundation.
Until December 2009, she headed Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management business operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). She is a member of the Merrill Lynch EMEA Executive Committee, the Global Wealth Management Executive and Operating Committees.
Prior to the mentioned position, she served as head of Merrill Lynch Global Markets & Investment Banking in Iberia as well as President of Merrill Lynch Spain (October 2003), and before that as Chief Operating Officer for Equity Markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Ms. Castillo joined Merrill Lynch in 1997 as head of Equity Markets for Spain and Portugal. In 1999 she was promoted to Country Manager for Spain and Portugal and in 2000 she became CEO of Merrill Lynch Capital Markets España.
Before joining Merrill Lynch, she worked for Goldman Sachs in London for 5 years in the International Equity Markets Department. Prior to this she worked for 5 years at the Spanish broker Beta Capital in the Sales and Equity Research Department.
Sally has been working with the Company since 1999. She started with the corporate HR department of BT before moving to O2 when the companies demerged in 2001. Since then Sally has led Compensation and Benefits for Telefónica Europe, the Global Compensation and Organization team and now leads the Europe HR team. She is based in the UK. Prior to joining Telefónica, Sally worked for Tesco and for Arthur Andersen (now Deloitte). She has a business degree from Manchester University and a masters degree from the University of Warwick.
Patricia Cobian is Business Development Director for Telefonica Europe, in charge of strategic initiatives, new business opportunities and the coordination with Telefonica Digital and Telefonica Global Resources. Prior to that she was Business Manager for Telefonica Europe’s Chairman and CEO. She joined the Telefonica Group in 2006 as Vice President Strategy and Development for O2 Group.
Prior to joining the Telefonica Group, Patricia spent seven years with McKinsey & Company, where she was a member of the Telecommunications and Corporate Finance practices in the Madrid, New York and London offices. She started her career at Hewlett-Packard in the Financial Services Division. Patricia holds a MSc. in Industrial Engineering from Universidad Pontificia Comillas – ICAI, in Madrid.
CEO, Telefónica UK
Ronan Dunne was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Telefónica O2 UK on 1 January 2008. At this time, he also joined the board of Telefónica Europe plc.
Mr. Dunne was previously Chief Financial Officer of Telefónica O2 UK, a position held since February 2005. Prior to this, he held the role of Head of Finance, at parent company O2 plc, reporting to the Group Chief Financial Officer. He is a trustee of the O2 pension scheme.
Prior to joining O2, Mr. Dunne held senior financial positions in the banking and the corporate sectors. These included the Head of Strategic Finance and Integration at Exel plc. He was born and educated in Dublin and moved to the UK in 1987.
Ronan is a fellow and former council member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICAI). He is also a fellow of the Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT).
Chief Financial Officer
Pilar is a Business Studies graduate. She joined Telefónica after working for several years at JP Morgan in London and New York where she worked her way up to Vice President. Pilar joined the Telefónica Group in 1999 in Telefónica de España's Strategic Planning Department. In May 2000 she was appointed Director of Management Control at Telefónica SA. Two years later, in 2002, she joined Telefónica Móviles S.A. to head up this company's Management Control function. In October 2006 she was promoted to Director of Strategy and Business Development at Telefónica España.
She was appointed to the Board of Telefónica Europe plc on 12 March 2007.
Holds a law degree from Carlos III University of Madrid and was admitted to the Spanish Government Legal Services in 1997. He joins Telefónica on 2006, as Public Law Manager and afterwards Telecommunications and Information Society Legal Affairs Manager being the responsible of regulation and competition legal issues. On 2008 he was appointed Chief Legal Officer of Telefónica, S.A., reporting to the Group's General Counsel. He is currently and from September of 2011, General Counsel of Telefonica Europe.
Until 2006, he served as State Lawyer for the Public Administration, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Energy and the High Court of Cataluña. From 2002 to 2004 he was appointed General Director for Legislation of the Ministry of Science & Technology. He has been Chief Legal Officer of the Spanish Broadcasting Corporation.
Richard Poston joined the Company in 2001. Previously Mr Poston was the Director of Communications for TI Group from 1999 to 2001 and, prior to this, Director of Corporate Communications for Racal Electronics from 1994 to 1999. He held a number of corporate communications and public affairs roles in Racal Electronics. During this time, he was closely involved with the early growth of Vodafone leading to its demerger from Racal and the formation of Camelot Group, operator of the National Lottery, in which Racal was a major shareholder. He started his career in the Royal Navy where he served from 1978 to 1986.
Richard was appointed to the Board of Telefónica Europe plc on 1 January 2007.
