CEO of Telefónica Digital
Matthew Key became CEO of Telefónica Digital in September 2011. Telefónica Digital is a global operation whose mission is to migrate Telefónica to a digital telco. A company of 300 million customers, operating in 25 countries.
Telefónica Digital has a stated objective to take Telefónica beyond connectivity, growing at >20% p.a. to a €5bn turnover business in 3 years.
Prior to this, he was Chairman and CEO of Telefónica Europe plc. Telefónica Europe operated in 5 countries – had 56 million customers, a turnover of more than €15bn and Operating Profit of €5bn.
He joined O2 UK in February 2002 before becoming CEO on 1 February 2005. Specific highlights during this period included O2 becoming Apple’s exclusive partner for the iPhone and the opening of The O2 (now the world’s most popular entertainment venue).
Prior to O2, Matthew held various financial roles with Vodafone, Coca-Cola & Schweppes, Grand Metropolitan and Kingfisher. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Young in London in 1987, having previously achieved a first class honours degree in Economics from Birmingham University. He is married with three children and lives in Buckinghamshire and also serves as a Trustee of the Dallaglio Foundation.
CEO of New Business Ventures
Stephen Shurrock is CEO of New Business Ventures at Telefónica Digital. He is responsible for global content deals, venture capital investments, OTT communications, global advertising and big data. Prior to joining Telefónica Digital in October 2011 Stephen was Chief Executive Officer of Telefónica Ireland, a position he took up on December 1st 2010.
A highly experienced telecoms executive, Stephen initially joined O2 in the UK in 2000 and has held a number of senior sales and finance roles. He was responsible for the Consumer Sales Division and managing a team of 4,000 staff encompassing Telefónica UK's high street, franchise, online and indirect channels. During his 3 years in that role Stephen drove a huge improvement in the performance of Telefónica UK's direct business and the online channel. An accountant by profession, Stephen has held a number of financial positions including Head of Commercial Finance for Telefónica UK.
Antonio Marti Ciruelos
Chief Financial Officer
Antonio became the CFO at Telefónica Digital in October 2011. Previously Antonio served as CFO of Telefónica’s yellow pages unit, TPI, where he was instrumental in the turnaround and international expansion of the business. In 2005 he was appointed CFO of Telefónica de España, S.A. (Spanish wireline business). Antonio then took over the same responsibilities at Telefónica Móviles España, S.A. (Spanish wireless business) when Telefónica decided to integrate both operations in October 2006.
Prior to joining Telefónica, Antonio worked for All Trading Brokers Europe, S.A. for 5 years (1994-1999), a Spanish brokerage house specialising in public debt, futures and options, money market products, etc. From 1986 to 1994 he worked in Banco Urquijo, S.A. (a medium size Spanish bank), where he held different positions: Director of the London Office, Director of the International Area and Director of M&A.
He earned his Business and Administration degree from the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE) in 1985.
CEO of Digital Services
Vivek Dev has served as CEO of Digital Services at Telefónica Digital since October 2011. Vivek Dev joined the company in 1994 as Chief Financial Officer for BT Mobile. In 1996, he became CFO of BT Europe, before taking on the role of CFO for BT Wireless. He was appointed Chief Operating Officer of O2 UK in August 2001 followed by becoming the Group COO of Telefónica Europe Plc in January 2008, then Group Director of Innovation, Telefónica S.A. Prior to joining BT, Dev held various senior finance roles in GrandMet (Diageo). He qualified at KPMG and then moved to Price Waterhouse, San Francisco.
Mr Dev represents the Telefónica Group on the boards of the GSM Association and WAC.
CEO, Digital Latin America
Juan Federico Goulu was appointed CEO, Digital Latin America in December 2012 to drive closer integration between Telefónica Digital and its operating businesses in Latin America. Prior to this, Juan was the CEO of Telefónica Ecuador, ahead of which which he was the Vice President for Sales and Customer Service. He leads a team of 1,200 direct employees and a network of more than 100,000 families linked to Telefónica's business in Ecuador.
Goulu, a native of Argentina, started his career in 1992 in the area of Strategic Planning and Product Development at Telefónica in Argentina. Afterwards he was appointed Control Managing VP and then transferred to Telefónica Mobile Argentina where he served the role of Marketing Vice President until the end of 2004. In January 2005, he directed the launch of our Movistar Brand.
CEO, Digital Europe
Michael Duncan is currently CEO of Digital, Europe. He served as Executive Chairman of Telefónica Venezuela since August 2011. Prior to that, he was President of Telefónica Telecom Colombia and held senior roles with Telefónica del Perú.
Michael is bilingual and holds an MBA from University of Northampton, England. A career highlight has been playing a key role in the consolidation of Telefónica del Perú in a highly competitive market, making it the fourth largest market in fixed broadband.
Director of Global Communications
David Nicholas is the Director of Global Communications for Telefónica Digital covering both external communications and public affairs. Prior to this he was Director of Communications for Telefónica Europe and before that, for O2 plc. David started his career as a diplomat working in various embassies in the Middle East, before moving in to PR in the 90s.
Director of Product Development and Innovation
Carlos Domingo is Director of Product Development and Innovation for Telefónica Digital. Prior to this, he was CEO for Telefónica I+D. Carlos also serves on the board of directors of Jajah. He holds a MSc in computer science from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, a PhD in computer science from the Polytechnic University in Catalonia and post grad business studies from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
With more than 15 years of experience in the software and telecommunications world, he has spent a big part of his professional career in Japan and USA and been CEO of tech companies, including Lizardtech, Extensis and Celartem. In 2008 he was awarded the `National Award to the Professional Career´ granted by the Computer Science Engineers Association in Spain. In his scarce free time he is a startup mentor for Seed Rocket and an angel investor in more than 10 technology startups.
Director of Business Affairs
Kate Jarvis is the Director of Business Affairs at Telefónica Digital. Before joining the digital division in October 2011 Kate was Legal Director of Telefónica Europe plc, a position which she had held since January 2009. Kate joined the Board of Telefónica Europe plc on 1 February 2010 as an Executive Director.
Prior to Telefónica Europe, she was Chief Counsel for O2 UK, Products O2 and Genie Internet, having originally joined BT’s corporate development team in 1999.
She worked previously at Freshfields and BMG.
Director of Human Resources
Marta Machicot joined Telefónica in 1998 as Human Resources Manager in Telefónica DataCorp, one of the Group business lines. In 2003 she was appointed Corporate HR Development Director.
Since October 2006, she has been the Talent Management Director for Telefónica España, responsible for top talent management, leadership development, training and career development, engagement and change management for 45,000 employees. Prior to joining Telefónica, Marta worked in multinational companies such as ABN Amro and Andersen Consulting, holding senior positions in HR. She is a law graduate from the University of Navarra and holds an MBA from Instituto de Empresa
