Telefónica is one of the world ‘s leading integrated telecommunications operators, providing communication, information and entertainment solutions. It has a presence in Europe, Latin America and China. The company operates in 25 countries. As of September 2011, Telefónica had a total of 299.7 million customers.

The Group holds fifth place in the world telecoms sector in terms of market capitalisation. It is the leading European integrated operator and holds fourth place in the Eurostoxx 50 ranking, which is composed of the major companies in Europe (figures at September 30, 2011).

Telefónica is a 100% private company, with more than 1.5 million direct shareholders. Its shares are traded on the Spanish stock exchanges (Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Valencia) and on the stock markets of London, New York, Lima and Buenos Aires.

Telefónica’s dividend yield stood at 8.2% in 2010, the highest return of the world’s top fifty companies by market capitalisation. Its total dividend yield for the past five years was 77.1%.

Telefónica has one of the most international profiles in the sector. More than 60% of the company´s business comes from outside its home market and it is a reference in the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking markets.

In Spain, the Group has over 80 years’ experience since its founding in 1924, providing services to more than 46.9 million customers at September 2011. In Latin America, Telefónica provides service to more than 194 million customers. It is the leading operator in Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Peru and has substantial operations in Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela. In Europe, apart from Spain, the Company has operations in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, providing services to more than 57.8 million customers.
